Amazon Kindle Fire Unveiled!

Here it is! Amazon’s Kindle Fire!

Amazon Kindle Fire

Now that the Press Conference I talked about yesterday is done, many things have been unveiled by Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and CEO. Here are the main features of the new device:

  • 7” multi-touch display
  • 8 GB of internal storage plus FREE cloud storage for all Amazon content
  • battery life up to 8 hours of continuous reading or 7.5 hours of video playback
  • USB 2.0 port
  • weight 413 grams
  • price 199$

The price is awesome, Amazon is clearly willing to enter the tablet market in a very aggressive way. The look of the device is great and the cloud storage is very interesting. Amazon also announced a new web browser, Amazon Silk, a “revolutionary, cloud-accelerated browser that uses ‘split browser’ architecture to leverage the computing speed and power of the Amazon Web Services cloud”. And, of course, it supports Adobe Flash Player.

At the beginning of the Press Conference, Bezos also announced a cut in prices for the Kindle Reader, now available in three different versions: Kindle at 79$, Kindle Touch at 99$ and Kindle Touch 3G at 149$.

Bezos closed the Press Conference saying: “We’re delivering premium products at non-premium prices”. On home page you can now read a letter signed by Bezos himself. The first lines of the letter are: “There are two types of companies: those that work hard to charge customers more, and those that work hard to charge customers less”. The recipient of the message is clear.
