A Game of Thrones Genesis

So, A Game of Thrones Genesis, one of the two video-games based on George Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire Cyanide is developing, has a release date. The game will be available September, 29th.

A Game of Thrones Genesis

A few days ago I made a post about A Game of Thrones RPG, complaining about the lack of information about Genesis. Here is what we know so far about the game:

  • the game will be a RTS for PC only;
  • the single player campaign will be about events that span 700 years before the events told in the books;
  • the storyline has been supervised by Martin himself;
  • the gameplay has been said to respect what is one of the main features of Martin’s book, that is unpredictability. Therefore, you will be able to win campaigns and settings not only with brute force, but also with economy and diplomacy;
  • there will be 8 playable Houses in the game – Targaryen, Stark, Tully, Arryn, Tyrell, Baratheon, Martell, Lannister – each with special abilities and units (you can find a complete list of the Houses’ features on the official website);
  • a lot of images and a CGI trailer (with no gameplay) have been released in the last months.

Still, few information. Call me Mr. Skeptical, but I don’t think I will buy this game on day 1. What has been released till now (images and trailer) is not representative of the game. Plus, it’s not exactly astonishing. The promises made about the game are very difficult to keep. From today press release

It is also very possible, by cleverly using all the low blows the game allows you to use, to earn victory without ever entering an open war or recruiting any army. A real first in a real-time strategy game!

There is still no information about how the Houses will be played (levelling, improvements, units, …). Again, no information about multiplayer (I’m afraid there will be no possibility to play LAN or Online).

Let’s wait and see. September will hopefully bring some further news.
